Our philosophy

We believe the home is the primary learning environment for families. Parents can create an environment that promotes or stifles learning. We try to provide encouragement and assistance in creating one that promotes learning. We are life-long learners, constantly learning new things, whether a new recipe, a new software program, a new language, or new fact. We are constantly growing and changing.

We hope to help you create an environment where your entire family can thrive. To this end, we will include frequent recommendations for books that accompany enrichment activities. The best way to enjoy these books is to read them aloud as a family. Before the advent of television and radio, reading aloud was a more frequent activity in literate families. Although we tend not to promote those skills in our current culture, they are highly beneficial in many of our current situations-public speaking or speaking in an important meeting, handling new situations with aplomb, improving the quality of our voice for all sorts of interactions. Since so much of our interaction is over phones, reading aloud can improve the quality of our speaking voices and thus improve our effectiveness in telephone conversations. It will not help with texting, but it will give you more effective verbal skills.

We also believe sports can be an important vehicle for promoting learning. Many of the sports activities will include math for statistical calculations. Most expect the family to participate in the sport.

Cooking is also a great learning activity and of course lots of fun. We will try to include this as often as we can and will often include recipes to try.
